On Friday afternoon 31st May a small contingent from IGK Victoria flew down to meet their IGK Tasmania counterparts at Bruny Island for the annual winter camp at Adventure Bay hosted by Noel Peters Kyoshi. Our cabin accommodation at the Captain Cook Caravan Park near the training hall came without the usual operable heating – better for goju conditioning.

It has been a tradition for the neighbouring states to make the effort to attend camps held by each club and old friends reunited for training at the local community hall at Adventure Bay. This is a pristine location adjoining the sea and its natural beauty and solitude makes it a special place to visit.

Great training, excellent catering, warm hospitality and the camaraderie between the clubs created a terrific learning experience. Noel Peters Kyoshi, John Ross Shihan and Lambros Kallianiotis Sensei taught and led sessions with kihon ido, kata, sticky hands training and the traditional dawn ocean training in the clear waters of Adventure Bay on a crisp Sunday morning.

Saturday night at the Hotel Bruny at Alonnah gave us some time to let our hair down and enjoy a great local pub meal and some local beers. It was a great time to catch up with our southern training partners and get to know each other better.

The Victorians made their way back home on Sunday afternoon catching the ferry back over to Kettering, enjoying some fine Italian food at Battery Point and having time for a coffee at Salamanca Place in Hobart before departing for the airport.

IGK Headquarters Victoria thanks Noel Peters Kyoshi and IGK Tasmania once again for their warm hospitality in inviting us to join their dojo’s training. Noel Kyoshi’s insights into karate-do, his philosophy of training and attention to detail are unique, educational and insightful in giving each of us new ways of looking at techniques, mindfulness and purpose.

We hope to see the Tasmanians at our Spring Camp at Anglesea in a few months. This is a great event to improve your karate and challenge yourselves. Join us for a life changing weekend!
