We have combined varied terms to make it easier to learn combinations of terms eg, the type, target and direction of a strike. This is how commands are delivered in a class. This is an alphabetic list. Look up each individual term  to understand its root meaning.

AGE HIJI ATE
Rising vertical elbow smash

AGE TSUKI
Rising or upward punch, uppercut

ATE
Smash or strike, as opposed to a punch, either with the elbow or heel of the palm.

CHUDAN TSUKI
Middle or mid section punch

CHUDAN SEIKEN TSUKI
Middle thrusting punch

FURA URI UCHI
Roundhouse snapping strike or swing punch with the back of a clenched fist

GEDAN SEIKEN TSUKI
Lower thrusting punch

GEDAN TSUKI
Lower punch as in lower target areas of the body

GEDAN TETSUI UCHI
Lower hammer strike; see tetsui uchi

GY AKU TSUKI
Reverse thrusting punch

HAITO UCHI
Ridge hand strike is a roundhouse snapping strike with the firmly positioned inner ridge of the hand

HIJI ATE
Vertical elbow smash or strike; Hiji being an elbow and Ate describing the hit or smash

HIKI TSUKI
Thrusting punch with immediate withdrawal; delivered as specified, either upper or middle thrusting punches

JODAN TSUKI
Upper punch or strike

JODAN SEIKEN TSUKI
Upper thrusting punch

KIZAME TSUKI
Jab punch

MAWASHI HIJI ATE
Circular or horizontal elbow smash or strike

MAWASHI TSUKI
Roundhouse or circular punch, a rip to the ribs

MOROTE TSUKI
Double fist thrusting punch

NIHON TSUKI
Double punch

NIHON SEIKEN TSUKI
Double thrusting punch

NUKITE TSUKI
Spear hand strike with finger tips to vital areas

OI TSUKI
Lunging punch; thrusting reach as opposed to a jab

OTOSHI HIJI ATE
Downward or dropping elbow smash

REN TSUKI
Combination punch

SANBON TSUKI
Triple punch

SANBON SEIKEN TSUKI
Three thrusting strikes delivered in rapid succession as directed, e.g. upper, middle and lower; or one upper and two middle

SEIKEN TSUKI
Thrusting punch with the front of the fist, called the forefist.

SHITA TSUKI
Inverted thrusting punch, much like a shortened upper cut, directed to specific area, e.g. solar plexus, lower rib cage and groin

SHOMEN URA UCHI
Frontal back fist snap strike

SHUTO UCHI
Knife or edge of hand strike with snapping effect

TEISHO ATE
Open palm smash to the face

TETSUI UCHI
Hammer fist strike, also called bottom fist strike, applied to top of the head

TOME TSUKI
Extended punch leaving hand out

TSUKI
Strike or punch

UCHI
A snap fist delivery used as a powerful stunning blow, e.g. Ura Uchi and Shuto Uchi, means inside strike

URA UCHI
Back fist snap strike; also called Uraken Uchi – Ura meaning reverse side, Ken meaning fist

URAZUTO
Reverse knife hand strike; executed similarly to a back hand, but striking with the blade of the hand

USHIRO HIJI ATE
Rear elbow smash

USHIRO URA UCHI
Rear back fist snap strike from the position of both fists clenched, striking fist on top of the other and located in front of the body at mid section level

YOKO HIJI ATE
Sideward elbow smash

YOKO URA UCHI
Sideward back fist snap strike
