Each year IGK Headquarters Victoria hosts the annual Spring camp at Eumeralla Scout Camp in Anglesea. Traditionally our IGK Tasmania cousins, led by Noel Peters Kyoshi, cross Bass Strait to join us in training as we do each winter for their camp at Bruny Island. This year they attended in strong numbers and we were also honoured to have Judy Angeles Sensei from IGK Ballarat and her student attend as well.
From Fri 13th Sept to Sun 15th Sept 2019, we enjoyed perfect weather, plentiful food, strong training with lots of new information making for a great event. For the Victorians, it was great to train with other IGK clubs, renew old friendships and make new ones.
There were plenty of training sessions including a Sunday morning early beach training at Point Roadnight on a mild, windless morning on a beautiful ocean beach where we practised awase kumite and Sanchin kata before a hearty breakfast.
Training sessions focused on moving offline, staying in close to opponents in true goju style, trapping the striking arm and learning to gain advantageous position on the blind side of the opponent. We practiced drills taken in part from kata bunkai and started applying a more realistic defense and counter-attack.
Thanks to John Ross Shihan & Lambros Kallianiotis Shidoin from IGK Headquarters Victoria for a wonderful Spring camp.
A big Osu for the organisation, catering, Goju training and inspiration. There is no doubt about the value of the intensity, concentration of knowledge and training obtained at a camp so all efforts should be made to attend by members.
